I have a special needs baby and the speech therapist here teaches us parents occasionally the LOVE signs [this is as pronounced as in Gaelic-here in Ireland]. Do you know about it?? I never knew when i took interest in asl that i will be blessed with a child who may need signing and i must confess that i have not studied in a long time but read the newsletter--I blame time, but don't worry, we'll get there.
I got my kids interested 4 years ago and we will revisit conscientiously soon...the word I don't have, but it is pronounced as 'love'--know it???

Regards and enjoy the summer-it has been ok here for a while but our dear Irish weather comes up as unpredictable a times.

Carolyn

Carolyn,
Perhaps you are referring to a system of signing known as "Linguistics Of Visual English?"
Do not be overly concerned at this point with "labels" or specific systems of signing.  The point is to engage in vast amounts of communication with your child.  I personally endorse the use of American Sign Language and/or other naturally evolved visual languages that employ grammar systems which are efficient for visual-gestural communication. However, any of the popular manual communication systems will also "succeed" if the parent is enthusiastic, committed, and generous with her time.  What is important is to provide cognitive stimulation and impart building blocks of knowledge so that your child's brain will develop fully and powerfully.
Best wishes--cordially,
Dr. Bill Vicars
