American Sign Language: "next week" The sign for "next week" has a couple of variations. This sign slides the dominant "index-finger" hand forward and off of the base hand, then curves sharply to the left (if you are right handed). Note it is the knuckles and thumb of the dominant hand that slide across the base hand palm. NEXT-WEEK: "Next week are you coming to school?" Another version of "next week" uses index fingers on both hands. The dominant hand moves forward and to the left. next-WEEK (double index fingers variation) This version actually moves backwards and then flips a U underneath the base hand. Note the slightly different starting position. Note: The base hand doesn't move. Only the dominant hand is moving. NEXT-WEEK (backward variation) And, finally, you might see this done without the base hand. The movement here is the same as the sign above. It moves backward then downward then forward in a quick flipping movement. You just do it without the base hand.
